The laws regarding SR22 insurance are different in each state. You were required to file SR22 insurance in order to get your license reinstated after receiving a DUI in Washington, and if you let that policy lapse, even if you move, the insurance company will still notify the Washington DMV. Upon notification, the DMV will most likely suspend your license again.

Chances are, when you apply to get a Texas driver’s license, you will still need to carry out the remaining time you have left for your SR22 filing. I would call both the Washington and Texas DMV to ask them about the requirements for transferring your SR22 insurance between states and if it is necessary.

I have been convicted of a DUI in the State of Vancouver Washington. I found several auto insurance companies that sell SR22 insurance, but they wont sell it to me. Why is this?

A car insurance company that sells SR22 policies is not obligated to sell a Vancouver SR22 insurance polices to any one. Car insurance companies cannot discriminate people based upon reasons that do not relate to auto insurance, but they can certainly turn away business that contains an extremely high risk. If trouble persists, then you might try going to a higher priced company. These companies generally sell to people who have expensive cars or are extremely high risk. Although, going this route will generally lead to paying a much higher premium, but it is better than the alternative.

If that method does not work for you, try joining up with the Vancouver SR22 state assigned risk pool. The department of insurance will randomly select a car insurance company that is willing to insure you for a high monthly payment.
